Sudarshan | Chapter 2 | The Genesis
August
'1988
He was born in Mathura, a small but very famous place in Uttar Pradesh.
And Trilok lived with his wife Savitri in a small village near Mathura. It was
a middle-class family but both of them loved each other very much and hence
they were happy in whatever they had. For many years both of them had no
children, they used to pray to God every day for a child. The cycle of destiny
was about to revolve and one day they learnt that Savitri is pregnant. This
realization gave them immense happiness.
Trilok used to take great care of Savitri as he did not want anything to
harm this happiness. But this night was most important for Savitri and Trilok.
The biggest wish of his life was nearing completion. It had been raining in
Mathura continuously for the past two days. But even after this, people were
coming continuously as it was the time of Krishna Janmashtami. The whole city
was decorated, echoing with the hymns of Krishna’s devotional songs from place
to place and the sound of the temple bells were mesmerizing the tourists who
came there. Thousands were waiting for the commencement of the birth
anniversary of Krishna at the Krishna Janmabhoomi.
It seemed as if the whole of Mathura was immersed in devotion. On the
other side, the time of Sudarshan's birth was also coming near. As Savitri
begins to suffer labour, Trilok runs away and calls a few women living in a
nearby house for her help. Realizing the seriousness of that time, one of them
sends her son to Kamla Tai to get her to Trilok's place.
Kamala Tai was older but she was an expert in her work. And at that time
she was nothing but a goddess for Trilok and Savitri. Savitri was moaning in
pain and all the women were comforting her. But the sound of strong rains and
lightning was becoming a matter of concern for Trilok as he was worried
thinking "Will Raju be able to bring Kamla Tai in time?". On the
other hand, Savitri's pain was also increasing. Trilok sat in front of the
small temple of his house and started praying to God.
Then suddenly there was a loud sound as if a bomb had exploded. It was
the sound of lightning originating in the sky. Trilok looks at the door with
bewildered eyes and his eyes light up seeing "Kamala Tai" rushing
towards Savitri. He greets Kamala Tai and begs for her
help. Kamala Tai asks him to wait outside, reassuring him that all will be
well.
He sits outside in the courtyard and starts praying to God. On the other
hand, the time of birth of Lord Krishna was also coming near. The shouts of
"Hathi Ghoda Palki Jai Kanhiya Lal Ki" were echoing in the temples.
The strong rains outside were not a concern to anyone. All devotees were waiting for
the time when the temple priest announced the birth of Krishna. On the other
hand, Savitri's condition was getting worse. The situation was very serious for
Kamala Tai. Still, she was trying her best.
*******************
The doors of the Krishna Janmabhoomi temple open and the priest
announces the birth of Krishna in the temple and hail for Krishna echoes the
entire Mathura. On the other hand, the cry of an infant echoed in Trilok's
house. Trilok thanks God,
Kamala Tai comes out and informs him about the birth of a son. Trilok
thanks her and gives her some money, but Kamala Tai refuses to take the money
and leaves. This behaviour raises doubts in Trilok's mind which raises a
glimpse of seriousness on a face that was filled with a smile of happiness.
Ignoring her, Trilok rushes inside the room to see his wife and son.
As he enters all the women inside greet him with kindness and leave.
When he looks at Savitri, she is feeding her son in her hands, and it was not
difficult for Trilok to guess the happiness by seeing a smile on her face. But
he could not understand why those women were behaving in such a way?
Seeing the seriousness on Trilok's face, Savitri tells him "Why are
you so upset?" Are you not happy about the birth of your son? ”. "No.
no, it is not so, today, the greatest desire of our life has been fulfilled,
what else can be a matter of great happiness. But Kamala Tai's behaviour is my
concern.
Savitri says "First of all you see your son and all of your worries
will be forgotten" and puts their son in Trilok's hands. Trilok sees his son's face and
gets lost in the beauty of that newborn baby, and in fact, he forgets all the
worries for a while. A smile blossoms over his face, which was filled with
seriousness, and his eyes have tears of joy.
"He is very beautiful, he looks absolutely like you," says
Trilok, looking at Savitri. But as soon as he sees Savitri, he again becomes worried. Savitri's eyes
were closed but there was a smile on her face, he calls her
"Savitri". But she does not give any answer and does not do any
physical activity as she had passed away. Soon Trilok realizes this and starts
crying bitterly holding his son in his lap against his heart. And
mourning sinks in lamentation.
*******************
Trilok, after completing the funeral procession of Savitri the next day,
is sitting in mournful condition with his son in his hands. And then there
comes a monk with the hail of "Jai Shri Ram", seeing Trilok crying,
asks the reason for his grief. Trilok had no clue of his presence at first.
But later he tells the monk the whole story and asks, “O saint! Is Mother's love not written in the fate of this
unfortunate child, is he born with bad luck?” On hearing such disappointing things, the monk says, "It is not like that Son! Whatever is written in the destiny, that
happens and no one can change that and there is no point of grieving if you
cannot change that."
And whatever happens is for the accomplishment of a great work. "Taking
the child in his lap, the monk asked: "What is his name?"
Oh Lord!, he was born tonight and his mother died too. We have not yet
had the opportunity to name him. "You should name him." Trilok answers. Then monk says, "Son, this child is born in the same constellations
in which Lord Krishna himself was born. Think of him as his offering, the world
will be illuminated by his glory. His knowledge will bring forth the progress
of the world. He too will support dharma like Lord Krishna and establish its
definition to the world.” His ideas will make the world beautiful and his name shall be “Sudarshan”
But! and suddenly the monk stops and starts to leave from there. On hearing the word “but” from the saint, Trilok gets suspicious
thinking why the monk suddenly stopped. Trilok stops him and asks "O monk!
But what?" "There is nothing to change the synonym of his birth," the monk
says.
But Trilok does not believe and starts urging him more. On Trilok's
persistence, he says that "This child has a short life, son, but the
responsibility of growing him well is yours, welfare."
Hearing this, as if the ground had slipped under Trilok's feet. He bowed
his head in sorrow but as soon as he looked up to ask anything else the monk
had vanished. The saint had gone from there and Trilok was surprised and could
not understand where that saint went so soon. His words were rooted in his
mind.
He takes the name of God and says, "As you command!”
